The "Double Standard"

When we talk about "double standards" we automatically think of gender wise, the males get the praise... But can it be the other way around? Can some double standards be favored in females?
What do you guys think ?
What exactly is double standard? Why is it so common and normal for us to judge based on the double standard ?

  1. i cant think of one thing that favors women in double standard. in fact, i was looking through it online and found this article about women in the military;

    http://acuf.org/issues/issue67/060912med.asp

    it explains how the standards of passing the military recruitment changed because of the physique and "strength" of women. a bit sarcastic but undeniably true.

    why is it common and normal for us to judge based on double standard? because there is a huge gap of differences that cannot be filled. its not that men are more dominant in everything but in certain things such as fighting in war, women are ill-equipped.

  2. Well a double standard that can favor women is domestic violence. I am not saying by male or female is right. But 99% of the time domestic violence is always with a guy being arrested. No one ever looks at the women being the violent one and the man defending himeself.

  3. I tryed to find some information where it favored womans but in most cases it said how men had more sexual freedom and were in a way truly free overall.

  5. I honestly cant think of anything that would favor women when it comes to a double standard.
    In society- I feel that women always come "second" to a male and always looked as not good enough compared to a man.
    Don't get me wrong, I feel that a women is much stronger than a man mentally... but as far as their physical position in society and how they're viewed... they are always seen as behind a man or not quite up to the standards as them.
    In society, men can do basically whatever they want... meanwhile, a women can't do this or can't do that. I feel that its truly NOT fair.. but this concept of double standard is better than it was many centuries ago... so i guess this is a start for something..

  6. So I wanted to write a follow up on my post from yesterday. I was reading my textbook for Corrections 202 and something was bought to my attention from what I had said. In my opinion, I realized there is one double standard in society. That exception is when it comes to arrest between male and female.
    "In his work on female criminality, Otto Pollack reported that females were underrespresented in the UCR because police treated them more leniently" (Regoli 42). Similarly, later on in the book- I read, "Even though girls are 'catching up' to boys in terms of delinquent involvement, arrest rates for males are still several hundred percent higher than for girls" (Regoli 56). As I was reading, I thought to myself, "wow, this is really true" It seems that females are always able to talk there way out of a ticket, out of an arrest or getting a more lenient punishment in court. I do feel that it is unfair how society works, but it's been going on for so long... it's hard to think of where to start in terms of bringing about change..
