The Border...
So much of our class is looking at the construction of race and ethnicity in the United States. Who is an immigrant, who is a minority group, who is a colonized minority group and so on, are questions we need to ask ourselves because this helps us to understand the perspectives of others.
How much do we know about the border? Today, 03/08/2010, we will be attending a presentation called Border Angels, Border Realities and Immigration Today a talk by Enrique Morones. He is the founder Border Angels,a non-profit organization engaged in the support of humanity.
Where:
John Jay College, March 8, 2010, 1:55-‐3:15PM
899 10TH AVE, ROOM 630T (The T Building)
I ask all of you to post your reflections!
Update:
Those of you who attended, thank you!!! Your presence ensures that speakers like Enrique have a place here at John Jay! Also, I hope you can appreciate what was said and the human effort involved in a project such a Border Angels. This work is directly related to the study of race and ethnicity. Think about the myths that are presented to the American people, do you instinctively want to disagree with any of these findings? Why? Why not? Is it because you've always been told otherwise? Or is it because you want to believe what you've always believed? We hear conflicting perspectives on TV every night. How do we choose what to believe and what not to believe?
